September 26, 2002 - As early as last January Karl Rove, the President’s political strategist advising the Republican Party to emphasize War as a campaign theme for the November Elections. When asked why the President waited until September to raise the issue of war with Iraq, Andrew Card, the President’s Chief of Staff, replied, “from a marketing standpoint you don’t introduce new products in August.” Appearing before a Republican fund raiser Whitehouse pollster Matthew Dowd announced that the war issue would “put the Republicans on a very good footing.”.....click here for entire article September 25, 2002 - I am an American. That means that no one can tell me what to think, what to believe, what to worship or what I can or cannot say. I am an American. That means that I do not need to fear that anyone can invade my privacy, listen to my conversations or tell me with whom I may speak or spend my time. I am an American and that means that nobody can invade my home, sieze my property, or arrest me unless they have first convinced a judge that I have probably committed a crime. I am an American and that means I can travel where I wish and when I wish to and no one can ask me for "my papers" at a check point unless I am entering the United States. I am an American and that means that no one can throw me into jail without charging me with a crime or keep me there without giving me the opportunity to make a reasonable bail nor deprive me of my property or liberty unless a jury has convicted me of a crime. I am an American.....click here for entire article September 7, 2002 - Let us start by conceding the proposition that Congress will find that the present Iraqi regime constitutes a clear and present threat to the peace and stability of the region, the international petroleum markets and thus the vital interest of the United States such that the United States would be justified in going to war with Iraq. That finding should not end Congressional consideration of an authorization to the executive to proceed to institute the Second Iraqi War. It must then proceed to consider the cost of doing so and then balance the cost of engaging in war with Iraq and the following occupation against the value to America of the results we may to be obtained by doing so. You probably remember hearing it in civics or history class. If you passed you probably remember that it has something to do with the Bill of Rights and if you did well in class you probably remember that it came from the Fifth Amendment.
